PCAM welcomes all help for fundraising run on Oct 9
MIRI: The Palliative Care Association of Miri ( PCAM) is calling all parties to support its annual charity run.
PCAM treasurer Richard Wong, who is the event’s organising committee chairman, said although his team hoped to see more runners this year, they also wanted more people to donate generously to the cause.
“In addition to raising funds to cover the RM10,000 in monthly expenditure, we also need to come up with another RM500,000 to acquire a permanent premises in Piasau. We hope to do this soon as we need to vacate the present property in Pujut, which we are currently using as our base, by early next year,” Wong told reporters on Tuesday after the presentation of sponsorships from two companies.
Coco Dive delivered to the committee RM1,000 from proceeds of its recent fund-raiser, while Rivine Etika Sdn Bhd pledged to provide drinks during the run, scheduled for flag- off at Marina Park City here this Oct 9.
Registration is open to Malaysians and foreigners with valid passports who wish to take part in any of the five main categories. They are Group A (Men’s Open – 18 years and Above), Group B (Women’s Open – 18 years and Above), Group C ( Boys – 1217 years), Group D ( Girls – 1217 years), and Group E ( Fun / Family Run 3km) in which any runner aged 12 and below must be accompanied by at least one parent or legal guardian.
Registration fee is RM50 per runner and closing date is Sept 15.
Every registered participant is entitled to a free T- shirt, and a finisher’s medal will be given to any runner who complete the route.
Entry forms can be downloaded via http://www. palliativecaremiri.org/ while the hard copies can be obtained from the Palliative Daycare Centre at Lot 64, No 16G, Tukang Road in Krokop 1, or Sim Clinic here.
Alternatively, interested runners can also come to Gymkhana here this Saturday and Sunday, from 2pm to 6pm, or the DiGi Centre at Marina Park City every day, from 10am to 2pm, till Aug 25.
Additionally, Wong said PCAM would use the charity run as a medium for it to spread awareness of its activities to the public.
“One of them is the ‘ Palliative Care Home Programme’, which aims to relieve the pain and stress of patients living in and around Miri.
“As a non-profit organisation, PCAM needs public support. It has to cover a range of expenses such as those for its daycare centre and utilities, the purchase of disposable, consumable medical items and equipment, and also the salaries of three full- time nurses.
“Currently, these nurses conduct weekly home visits for 57 patients. Right now, the services are being provided (to the patients) for free, with medical equipment being given on loan to patients wherever and whenever necessary.”
