Two suspects held over kidnapping of businessman

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have detained two men in connection with the kidnapping of a businessman opposite the National Zoo in Hulu Kelang early Saturday.

The suspects, aged 25 and 34, were picked up after the 39-yearold victim was released in Sri Muda, Klang about 11.30pm, the same day.

The release of the victim - who was held captive at a house in Parit Jawa, Klang - followed payment of a RM20,000 negotiated ransom.

The original sum demanded by the suspects was RM50,000.

Ampang Jaya police chief, ACP Hamzah Alias said the businessman was waiting for a friend by the road- shoulder in front of the zoo near Kampung Kemensah when he was kidnapped about 4.30am.

“One of the kidnappers contacted the victim’s wife and demanded for a RM50,000 ransom to secure her husband’s release.

“However, after negotiations, the kidnappers agreed to a reduced ransom of RM20,000 and the victim was released.

“Following his release, the businessman lodged a police report before the two suspects were nabbed at a house in Taman Dagang,” he said when contacted by Bernama here yesterday.

Hamzah said the police also seized RM5,000 and a cash deposit receipt amounting to RM5,000, from the suspects.

“The suspects have been remanded and we are tracking down two other accomplices,” he added. — Bernama
