NBOS initiatives act as a conduit to fulfil People Economy — Ali Hamsa

-

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s National Blue Ocean Strategy ( NBOS) initiatives, which cover different segments of society, act as a conduit to fulfil the People Economy, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.

He said that while economic success had always been defined in terms of financialand economic matrices such as Gross Domestic Product, inflation and unemployment rate, it was pertinent for any government including Malaysia to pay equal attention to the People Economy.

In his keynote address titled “Formulating and Implementing National Blue Ocean Strategy’ at the inaugural International Conference on Blue Ocean Strategy ( ICBOS) here yesterday, Ali stressed on the importance of government policies and programmes in bringing tangible and meaningful benefits to the people.

“While we can celebrate our success in our competitiveness rankings and financial ratings, it bears little meaning to the people if these successes do not translate to tangible outcomes for them,” he said.

He said the NBOS provided a new approach towards the formulation of policies, planning and implementation of government programmes.

Ali said in its first year of implementation in 2009, there were 10 initiatives or programmes under NBOS, which had now grown to 97 initiatives involving more than 80 ministries and agencies.

“These programmes have brought high and meaningful impact to the people. Not only were these programmes executed rapidly, they were also implemented at much lower costs, as compared to conventional means,” he said. — Bernama
