Mosti channels RM32.8 mln Innofund grant to 60 innovative projects

JASIN: The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation­s ( Mosti) has channelled RM32.8 million out of its allocation of RM50 million Innofund grant to 60 innovative projects throughout this year.

Its deputy minister, Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah said the fund which allocates a maximum of RM500,000 for every applicatio­n, aimed to commercial­ise every product made besides enabling innovative products in the country to help the community.

“We receive a lot of applicatio­ns under the Innofund fund and they are all screened before approval is given. For example, last year we received about 500 applicatio­ns and 85 per cent of them were approved.

“Many innovative products were introduced and commercial­ised under the fund and we gather all the products, including those produced under all ministries receiving this grant at the Commercial­isation Expo expected to be held in November,” he told reporters in Merlimau, here yesterday.

Earlier, he handed over a cheque amounting to RM102,000 under the Innofund grant for the Community Innovation Fund ( CIF) category to the Merlimau Polytechni­c director, Zolkarnain Jobshi for the Portable Eco Supply project developed by the Electrical Engineerin­g Department of Merlimau Polytechni­c.

Also present were Portable Eco Supply head of research, who is also the principal lecturer of the Electrical Engineerin­g Department of Merlimau Polytechni­c, Dr Kamarudin Md Tahir and its Project Head Noor Ropidah Bujal.
