MRSM Kuching scores another rugby triumph

KUCHING: The MRSM Kuching rugby team scored more success this year when they emerged the champions in the Pan- Borneo Muafakat 10s at MRSM Tun Mustapha in Tawau, Sabah last Saturday (Aug 13).

They beat SMS Lahad Datu 7- 0 in the Cup fi nal for their second consecutiv­e title after winning the Don Drury Memorial Trophy with a convincing 41- 0 win over SMK Tebedu recently.

Playing in Group D, MRSM got off to a winning start when they beat SMS Lahad Datu 5- 0 and went on to defeat MRSM Tawau 7- 0 and top the group with six points.

They beat KV Tawau 12- 0 in the semi-fi nal to reach the fi nal.

The team captained by Mohd Hanif Sufian included Ahmad Ramadhan Reduan, Albert Aliam, Fakhrul Iqbal, Aiman Nabil, Muhammad Amir, Tarry Ajan Lewat, Allister Tik Tony, Muhammad Ammar Imran Arazmi, Doeindarvi­eson Steward Runggah, Kayren Mike Ridway, Abang Aqi l Nukman Abang Zainorin, Muhammad Nur Zikry and Anderton Agom.

MRSM Kuching were also the champions in May this year at the Song Kheng Hai Rugby Ground after they beat SMK Muara Tuang A 5- 0 in the Girls Touch Rugby Sevens.

“Our team displayed great teamwork and fighting spirit in the Tawau tournament,” said head coach Vincent Nelos.

“I would like to attribute this victory to my players and the strong support from principal Zuraida Zaidi, team manager Norazizan Ahmad, Muafakat MRSM Kuching chairman Zamhuri, the teachers and the parents,” he added.

Other teams in the tournament were SMK Kunak Jaya, SMK Bugaya, SMK St Dominic, SMK Sepagaya and MRSM Sandakan.
