Henry Cavill teases Superman’s return from the dead on Instagram
THE CINEMATIC Superman is back from the dead. Kind of.
Actor Henry Cavill posted a surprising close-up shot on Instagram of what appeared to be the all-black Kryptonian suit he will wear when he returns to life after falling at the hands of Doomsday in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
The death of Superman might have been a surprise to some film fans, but dedicated readers of DC Comics knew where Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment were going with this plot twist.
When Superman died during his battle with Doomsday in the comics back in the early 1990s, he returned from the grave severely weakened and not at full strength, and wore an allblack suit until he returned to his normal super- strong status.
In the comics, Superman also returned from the dead needing a haircut: His superlocks were long, giving the S- curl some competition. The hash tag# Mullet For Superman can already be found online by passionate fans hoping Cavill’s comeback will mirror the look.
It’s too soon to tell if Cavill’s Superman will also come back to life weaker than he once was, or if WB/ DC and director Zack Snyder will go in a different direction. In “BvS,” Bruce Wayne ( Ben Affleck) gets a visit from the Flash ( Ezra Miller) in a dream where the Scarlet Speedster warns Batman that he was right to think the way he did about a certain someone. Batman is also told that Lois Lane is the key.
Could Superman be coming back angry? Will the newly formed Justice League have to worry about taking Superman down instead of hoping he joins the team? And will a blacksuited Superman actually make his return in the “Justice League” film?
We’re in the dark right now as to what WB/ DC’s full plans are for the return of the Man of Steel, but for right now, this is some much-needed positive buzz heading DC’s way. — WPBloomberg
