Wang Baoqiang’s wife sues over public embarrassment

-

BEIJING: For comedian Wang Baoqiang, the laughter has abruptly stopped.

The Lost in Thailand star’s married life has suddenly taken on connotations of a tearjerker blockbuster.

First, he discovered that his wife Ma Rong had been having sex with his publicist. He sacked him, and filed for divorce.

But before Wang did that, he had posted what is now deemed an embarrassing disclosure of his cuckolding wife.

She is fighting back, and has sued Wang, demanding that he apologise for the way he had trumpeted about her “alleged infidelity”.

According to papers filed in a Beijing court, Ma Rong alleges that Wang’s declaration on his microblog account had ruined her reputation.

Apart from demanding that Wang delete the divorce announcement, Ma Rong has also demanded that he post an apology on the same microblog account.

They had married in 2010 after a very public proposal.

In the early hours of last Sunday, Wang had posted a surprise announcement on his Weibo account indicating that he would divorce his wife.

She was accused of having an affair with his publicist Song Zhe.

Wang had written on Weibo: “Due to Ma Rong’s improper extramarital sexual relations with my agent Song Zhe, which has severely hurt my marriage and destroyed my family, I have solemnly decided to dissolve my marriage with Ma Rong and release Song Zhe from his

position.”

Hours later, on the WeChat social media app, Ma Rong fired back, accusing Wang of abandoning his family and friends.

In addition, Ma Rong said on her Weibo account that “he who excuses himself, accuses himself” and that “good and evil would reveal themselves in the end.”

When filing for divorce on Monday, Wang had alleged that Ma Rong had also concealed and transferred property, and “hurt his family members.”

The sensational proceedings have attracted wide public attention in China. Web pages of Weibo tagged “Wang Baoqiang’s divorce” have attracted more than 5.4 billion views and 1.6 million comments.

Some analysts say Wang’s rags to riches story - rising to stardom from nothing – has been an inspiration to many, with his frustration in marriage further contributing to the unbelievable public attention in China.
