Ranhill secures RM15.9 million NRW contract

KUALA LUMPUR: Ranhill Holdings Bhd via its subsidiary, Ranhill Water Services Sdn Bhd (RWS), has secured a RM15.9 million Non-Revenue Water (NRW) services contract from Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd.

The contract, for a 12-month period, is for servicing Kota Bharu Utara, Kota Bharu Timur, Kota Bahru Selatan, Bachok, Pasir Mas, Tumpat and Tanah Merah in Kelantan, it said in a statement here.

The project, scheduled to start in late August this year, will cover about 70 per cent of total pipe connections in Kelantan, and is expected to reduce the NRW by 5.8 per cent from the baseline which currently stands at 47 per cent.

President and Chief Executive Tan Sri Hamdan Mohamad said Ranhill had always been in the forefront of NRW reduction management and the contract renewal proved its capabilities in producing tangible results as per the client's requirements.

“Since our involvement in 2013, RWS has managed to reduce the state's NRW level from 56 per cent to 47 per cent or a saving of 40 million litres per day (MLD).

This can be translated to RM17.3 million savings per year for the state's water operator.

“As a result of this new contract, we can expect additional savings of RM12 million per year for the state,” he added.

RWS was formed in 2005 to focus on the reduction and management of NRW.

To date, it has managed to save more than 450 MLD from all its NRW projects, which includes Kedah, Melaka, Terengganu, Kelantan and Johor. — Bernama
