Idris: All 20 public universities to use iCGPA programme
SHAH ALAM: By monthend, all 20 public universities ( UA) nationwide will use the integrated cumulative grade point average (iCGPA) system for more holistic student assessment.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the acceptance of the universities to the system was a very positive development arising from the pioneer project involving five UAs conducted since September last year. He said the iCGPA programme was aimed at helping the universities evaluate students in a more comprehensive manner to achieve the government’s objective of producing more graduates with entrepreneurship, holistic and balanced qualities in the various fields.
The acceptance of the UAs for the iCGPA showed it had become more accepted and an action plan book had also been provided, he added. Speaking to reporters here yesterday, Idris said the programme was proof that the ministry was proactive and dynamic in its efforts to produce graduates who were truly holistic and balanced.
Earlier, the minister officiated the rebranding ceremony of the Kolej Pusat Teknologi dan Pengurusan Lanjutan ( PTPL) which has been renamed MSU College, following a merger with the Management and Science Universiti (MSU) here.
He said an improvement in the student’s way of thinking arising from the iCGPA pioneer project had also attracted the interest of several tertiary institutions to participate in the programme.
He added that through the programme, graduates would not only excel academically but would also be equipped with other skills, including fluency in the English language. — Bernama
