IW chief sings praises of Sibu chapter for a job well done

-

SIBU: Touching a heart does not have to be an expensive affair – it needs ‘enthusiasm’, according to International Inner Wheel ( IW) District 331 chairperson Viola Tsen.

She regards the simple act of kindness as ‘ baking powder of life’.

“Without it, you are flat. With it, you rise. A simple smile, a loaf of bread to feed a hungry family, small daily items for a charity home (will) suffice,” she stated this analogy in her speech at a dinner reception hosted by IW Club of Sibu at a local hotel, in honour of her official visit here recently.

Tsen, who hails from IW Sandakan Club, said there was never a shortage of people in need.

“It’s whether our eyes and ears are open to see and hear their cries in the dark. We can choose to be compassionate; or we can choose to be callous and keep our time and money for a rainy day,” she stated.

Fortunately, she said the Inner Wheel allowed members to pool time and resources together and reach out to help a complete stranger in need.

“If we can do this, there is hope, and the knowledge that members have the power within us to affect another person’s life will bring more joy than you can imagine,” she said.

Saying that true happiness was found in giving, Tsen said IW Sibu Club had done a meaningful lot for the local community.

According to Tsen, the IW has 3,895 clubs across 103 countries. The Inner Wheel District 331 has eight clubs – three in Singapore, three in Sarawak and two in Sabah.

This year, the movement’s theme is ‘ Touch a Heart’.

“If every member were to touch 10 hearts a week, IW would have helped more than one million people a week. Isn’t this awesome?” Tsen said.
