KUCHING: Sarawak Skills Development Centre ( PPKS) will run its inaugural technical education fair here from Sept 29 to Oct 1.

The organiser plans to have an ‘open day’ approach in holding the three- day carnival.

According to PPKS group executive director Hallman Sabri, PPKS aims to highlight the opportunities available in vocational education and related industry training through the event.

“The carnival is aimed at promoting technical and vocational education and training to the masses,” he told reporters at a press conference on the fair here recently.

He said open interviews would also be conducted by participating companies such as Senari Machinery Sdn Bhd, Longi ( Kuching) Sdn Bhd, H& L Retail Sdn Bhd.

Hallman added that the Skills Development Fund Corporation ( PTPK) would set up its mobile counter, where visitors could go to and find out more about study loans and their loan status, loan repayment and all information on what PTPK had to offer.

“The carnival will also have a blood donation drive, a karaoke competition, exhibitions by PPKS final-year students, an autoshow, free health checks, and also sales of food and drinks.”

Other programmes would include sports events such as football and volleyball matches, as well as some indoor games such as ping pong, darts and chess.

Hallman disclosed that the carnival would also host the signing of a memorandum of understanding ( MOU) between PPKS and three companies.

“The three companies – ABMTWI, Yunco Enterprise and Knowledgecom – are experts in information technology and industrial fields. The MOU will allow PPKS to explore new technical fields, in line with our aim to produce graduates with the skills that are relevant in today’s job market,” he said.
