Illegal hawkers at Mile 3 Bazaar told to move out

-

KUCHING: Illegal hawkers at Mile 3 Bazaar are urged to move out from their present premises and are given a month to do so.

Padawan Municipal Counciil ( PMC) chairman Lo Khere Chiang said the council had allocated a place behind the shophouses for them to do their business.

The 10 illegal traders have been doing their business on the parking bays from morning until evening, thus depriving motorists of parking spaces.

Such attitude, Lo said, had also received complaints from the licenced traders and shopkeepers.

“Our enforcement unit, together with Rela members, will go to the ground on Nov 1 to monitor the situation. We will be very strict on the issue because their action has given the council a bad name,” Lo told a press conference at his office yesterday, which was also attended by deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim, secretary Andrew Jores and market and licencing standing committee chairman Wilfred Yap.

Lo, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, said the council’s action was taken based on the various by-laws, and was not intended to deprive the traders of their livelihood.

“We want to regulate them (illegal traders) by allowing them to trade on proper premises,” he added.

He said the illegal traders had been doing their business on the parking bays for a very long time, and were still there despite several warnings from the council.
