PAS’ Mahfodz Mohamed heads Islamic Consultative Council Propagation Cluster
PUTRAJAYA: PAS Dewan Ulama chief Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed has been appointed to head the Propagation Cluster of the Islamic Consultative Council, a post hitherto held by the late PAS Spiritual Leader Datuk Dr Haron Din.
His appointment, effective today, was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi when opening the economic conference of the council at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here yesterday.
Ahmad Zahid said it was hoped that Mahfodz’s appointment would lead to consolidation of the ummah by setting aside political differences and ideologies.
He said the appointment was not based on Mahfodz’s political party but on the trust the council had in the Johor PAS commissioner offering views to the government and other sectors towards greater unity of the ummah.
The council, a brainchild of Ahmad Zahid, comprises leaders from the religious, academic, corporate and NGO fields who function as a think tank to help the government with ideas and proposals on implementing the national development agenda according to Syariah principles.
At the event, Ahmad Zahid received the conference resolutions comprising five proposals to integrate the economic system, among them developing a corporate endowment institution, making government-linked companies as corporate institutions of trust and establishing global halal audit professions. — Bernama
