Proceeds from ‘Dance For Love 3’ to help fund centre for physically challenged

-

KUCHING: Tusita Foundation, an arm under Malaysia Dhamma Society ( MDS), is still short of RM5 million for its proposed development centre to train the physically challenged.

Its president Crystal Chan said a charity dinner themed ‘ Dance For Love 3’ will be held at The Waterfront Hotel here come Nov 20 to raise RM300,000 for the project.

The foundation has previous held a ‘Dance For Love’ charity concert to raise funds for the proposed centre which aims to unearth and nurture the potential and talents of the physically challenged to help them lead an independent life.

This year, the organiser decided to make the event a fundraising dinner whereby individuals supporting the charity would be able to eat dinner while enjoying dance performances.

“We have raised a little over RM1 million thus far. There is still a long way to go as far as meeting the project’s cost is concerned.

“For the dinner on Nov 20, we have lined up 40 tables. But our ultimate target is 55 tables,” she said when interviewed via phone yesterday.

Chan added that the foundation had invited Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian to be its guest- of-honour.

She said tickets for the dinner are available at RM100, RM200 and RM300 per person.

Meanwhile, apart from the upcoming charity dinner, Chan said the foundation had carried out another welfare project called ‘Sayang Happy Meal’ twice so far this year.

Eighty children from the orphanage (Rumah Kanak-Kanak Kuching) at Mile 12 KuchingSerian Road here had benefited from the project, she added.

Meanwhile, the proposed centre aims to develop the physically challenged in the areas of education, arts and craft, technical skills, entrepreneurship and sports through training and experience.

It will also focus on developing other skills such as public speaking, performance, music and online business to empower the disadvantaged to be more independent.

Residents at the centre will also undergo courses conducted by professionals in their field of expertise. MDS is headquartered in the city with at least 200 members across the country. It was previously known as Kuching Bhagavan Buddhist Society.
