Two nurses of hospital, intern in stable condition

-

KOTA ISKANDAR: The two nurses and a physiotherapy intern who were admitted to the Sultan Ismail Hospital here after the fire incident at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital ( HSA) Tuesday, are reported to be in stable condition.

They were reported to have suffered internal injuries due to smoke inhalation.

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said two of them were now able to speak and had shown hand movements.

“Insya-Allah ( God willing)... they will get better but the recovery period depends on their ability to cope with the pain,” he told reporters after attending the state executive council meeting at the Dato’ Jaafar Muhammad Building here yesterday.

The fire claimed the lives of six patients in the Intensive Care Unit ( ICU) of HSA.

It was believed to have started from a treatment room located next to the ICU.

A total of 294 patients and 193 staff were at the hospital at the time of the incident.

Ayub said as of now, 54 patients were hospitalised at the Sultan Ismail Hospital, 28 at the Permai Hospital in Kempas while the rest were placed at other wards at HSA.

In a related developmet, he said the medical and blood supplies at HSA were still adequate despite the fire Tuesday.

“They still have stocks. It’s just that the need for blood supply is high...but that’s normal given such circumstances, be they fires, accidents and so on.

“Therefore, I beg the public to come forward and donate (blood),” he said.

Meanwhile, he also urged the people to get explanation about the fire from authoritative sources as fake news was going viral on social media regarding the victims. — Bernama
