Deepavali: Bakti donates to 10 welfare homes

PETALING JAYA: Deepavali celebratio­ns for occupants of 10 welfare homes and centres in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor became more meaningful when they received contributi­ons amounting to RM50,000 from the Welfare Associatio­n of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers ( Bakti) yesterday.

The contributi­on, which is Bakti’s annual activity in aid of the under- privileged groups, was handed over by its president, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor at a Deepavali tea gathering organised by Bakti, here.

A total of 250 occupants at all the welfare homes and centres comprised the poor, orphans and disabled people (OKU).

The homes concerned were Karunai Ilham Welfare Home, Anbu Ilham Welfare Home, Taman Megah Welfare Home for Disabled Children, the Down Syndrome Associatio­n of Malaysia, Tasputra Perkim, The National Autism Society of Malaysia, Malaysian Mental Health Associatio­n, Rumah Kanak-kanak Tengku Budriah, the Serendah National Skills Developmen­t Centre and Cancerlink Foundation.

Also present was the wife of the Federal Territory Minister, Datin Seri Anggraini Sentiyaki.

Community Developmen­t Assistant of Rumah Kanakkanak Tengku Budriah, Nur Elidza Edzuani Ainillaah Abdullah, said the welfare home under the Social Welfare Department had 170 residents who would benefit from the contributi­on.

Anbu Ilham Welfare Home supervisor V Nadarajan said the contributi­uon was most meaningful because it would also be used for the education of 20 orphans staying at the home. — Bernama
