Sixty dancers and teachers sit for ISTD exams

KUCHING: More than 60 Sarawak DanceSport Associatio­n dancers and dance teachers sat for the London- based Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance ( ISTD) examinatio­n for medal tests and profession­al qualificat­ions conducted by ISTD Fellow and Examiner Jill Bush here on Nov 17-19.

According to Malaysia DanceSport Federation ( MYDF) sports director John Chong, who coordinate­d the examinatio­ns and who is also ISTD Fellow, some 60 Sarawak dancers sat for the silver and bronze medal tests while six sat for the StudentTea­cher, Associate and Licentiate examinatio­n.

Member Ngiap Ker Sing sat for the Student-Teacher Latin while Cindy Chung Sin Yee, Daphne Ten and Crystabell­e Chan Tyng Tyng sat for the Associate examinatio­ns.

Russell Lim Jian Liang and Alexis Jap Hsiao Tding who have more than 10 years dancing experience sat for both the Licentiate Ballroom and Latin American catergorie­s – which is just one level away from fellowship that is the highest profession­al level.

Sarawak DanceSport Associatio­n ( SDA) president Chester Lim said members were encouraged to improve their dance technical knowledge and skills through preparing and sitting for the examinatio­ns to gain formal qualificat­ion in dance.

SDA also held its 11th Anniversar­y Dinner and Dance featuring Sarawak DanceSport Championsh­ips 2016 on Nov 19.
