Miri Beach Run organisers donate proceeds to charity

MIRI: The Methodist Hope Centre and Pibakis Morsjaya Communityb­ased Rehabilita­tion Centre (PDK) here each received RM10,000 yesterday from the organisers of the Second Miri Beach Run at Beach Republic.

The proceeds were was raised during the charity run organised by Beach Republic in collaborat­ion with Bulatan Park Runners Club, Miri Fire and Rescue Department, Lions Club of Batu Niah, Share Tea Boulevard, Eastwood Valley Gold and Country Club as well as the Youth Section of Lau Clan Associatio­n Miri.

According to race director Lawrence Wong, the event was a way to give back to society and at the same time, it encouraged all to be involved in a healthy sporting activity.

“We want to contribute to the less- fortunate children in our society, and this is one of the ways that we can do that.

“As we take part in this run, we are also happy to know that we are contributi­ng to charity, particular­ly to the children at PDK Pibakis Morsjaya and Methodist Hope Centre,” he said.

Coinciding with the charity beach run, Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club also held a ‘Charity Food Carnival’ at Beach Republic yesterday.The carnival raised RM3,000 each for PDK Pibakis Morsjaya and Methodist Hope Centre, and the cheques were also presented to the two charity organisati­ons at the same event. Apart from the donation, PDK Pibakis Morsjaya also received a unit of Kenwood food processor and a DVD player donated by Beach Republic.

Witnessing the presentati­on were the Second Miri Beach Run organising chairwoman Liew Li Yee, PDK Pibakis Morsjaya chairman Alah Imang, Charity Food Carnival organising chairwoman Then Yen Ling, Beach Republic director Mabel Law and a representa­tive of Methodist Hope Centre, Kenneth Lau.
