-

MIRI: Some 8,000 people are expected to participate in the fifth edition of Colour Rush which will be held in Kuching and Miri on Feb 18 and 19, 2017 respectively.

Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) President Jocelyn Hee told a news conference recently, the annual run was to commemorate International Childhood Cancer which falls on February each year.

She revealed that colourful powder would be used again next year, and that they were looking forward to a more colourful event.

“First of all, we appreciate the participation of supportive people from all over the state during the span of four years. With a turnout of more than 5, 000 people in the run yearly, we are eager to get even more runners to the awareness campaign this year,” Hee said adding that they were setting a target of 4,000 participants in Miri alone and aim to achieve it.

To avoid disappointment, Hee encouraged participants to register early via online which starts on Dec 8 2016 at www. colourrushrun.com.

In Kuching, participants can register in person from today at the SCCS Centre which opens from Monday to Saturday, between 9am to 4pm. Entry forms can also be obtained by visiting the weekend roadshows on every Saturday and Sunday at CityONE Megamall from 10am to 8pm.

The Kuching leg run will be held at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak on Feb 18, at 4.30pm whilst the Miri leg will be happening on Feb 19, 2017 at Boulevard Shopping Mall parking lot from 6.30am onwards.

“Apart from encouraging participants to have fun at the fun-fi lled event, we are looking at raising awareness amongst the younger generation, to demonstrate more understanding and empathy towards children with cancer,” said Hee.

Before the start of the 5KM charity run, runners will get to splash one another with fistfuls of coloured powder.

“Only when everyone is covered head-to-toe in various colours, does the run begin. In this race, everyone wins – this is not a competition but a running event that morally supports and helps kids outrun cancer,” Hee said.

Adding to this, Hee wish also to express appreciation towards all agencies involved to make the event happening, namely SoundArt (official sound equipment); Revive (official isotonic drink); The Shots Photography ( official photographer); Permaisuri Imperial City Mall ( Miri), Boulevard Shopping Mall ( Miri) and CityONE Megamall ( Kuching) as official venues; and official media partners – MY Fm, ERA fm and hitz fm.
