Bersih Sarawak’s candlelight vigil continues

-

KUCHING: Bersih Sarawak’s candlelight vigil at Padang Merdeka continued on Monday night despite the release of Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah earlier the same day.

The group led by its chairperson Anne Teo was also joined by state PKR vice chairman See Chee How. Apart from lighting candles and delivery of words of support by Teo, the participants sang a song related to Bersih.

Teo said the number of attendance this week was quite sizable and hoped that it would be more in the next gathering.

“The candlelight vigil is not only meant for the release of Maria Chin, but also to repeal Sosma which is an unconstitutional act,” she said, urging the people here to wake up against injustice.

The vigil is expected to be held every week.

Meanwhile, See said their prayers had been answered with the early release of Chin.

“Reason why she was released earlier was because of the candlelight vigil held throughout the country. This is good. At least the people are now standing up and telling the authority that Sosma has to go.

“It is important that this exercise has to continue. Even though Maria has been released, many empowerment groups are still doing the same thing. The vigil is not only for Chin but for everybody.

“We cannot have law like Sosma,” he said

Chin was detained under the Security Offences ( Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
