SIBU: Retired and soon-to-retire soldiers have been urged to continue to be valuable assets of the nation.

Commander of Ninth Malaysian Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Dato Subari Tomo made this call during a gathering for the retired and soon- to- retire servicemen at Mile 10 Oya Road Rascom Camp here recently.

He said their invaluable service to the nation could not be replaced, reiterating his call to them to continue to live a healthy life after retirement.

“You are our nation’s valuable assets.

“Do not take retirement as an excuse to live a passive life at home,” he stressed, reminding them to continue to lead a healthy lifestyle and be useful to the community.

“Trust yourself – believe that all your experience and knowledge gained here have high value and are needed in the society, especially among the youngsters.

“It’s important for the ex-soldiers to be creative in thinking in effort to continue to earn a living after retirement.”

At the gathering, Subari presented appreciation awards to six former servicemen, eight personnel involved in the transition exercises and 41 set to undergo the transition programme.

A transition programme is one tailored for soldiers before the end of their services by providing them with skills in preparation for a civilian life.
