‘My 1st Green Step’ is a carnival to spread knowledge and awareness of recycling. Popular has been joining in the effort to reduce the use of plastic bags since June 2011. This is Popular’s baby step in encouraging people to treasure our resources.

This year, children can expect more fun at ‘ My 1st Green Step Carnival’, where recycling hogs the limelight. Participants will enjoy crafts and activities that are not normally taught in classrooms. There’s no better opportunity for kids to learn new things and have fun while doing so!

And to reward your participation, you stand to go home with an exclusive water bottle worth RM31.90.

This Carnival is open to children aged 4 to 16-years- old between 12.00pm to 5.00pm daily from Dec 23 to Jan 2. Those interested can pre-register online at http:// bit. ly/kcorecycle2016.

Plastic bags are a silent killers in our beautiful ocean, and we’re calling talented little artists between 3 and 12-years-old to join a Children’s Colouring Competition themed ‘ Save Our Ocean’ on Dec 29.

It’s an opportunity to showcase creativity while learning the importance of preserving our ocean.

The competition will be divided into two categories: Category A for 5 to 8-year- olds and Category B for 9 to 12-year- olds.

Using the latest watercolour pencils, participants can adopt the normal pencil colouring method, or add a touch of water to create a ‘watercolour painting’ instead.

Stand a chance to win prizes worth RM4,000 sponsored by Faber- Castell.

Registration fee is RM5. Participants will get a door gift worth RM10 on the day of the event. Register online at http:// bit.ly/mbfcc16.

Fancy yourself storyteller?

In collaboration with Johan’s Public Speaking Academy, Popular presents a Malay Storytelling Competition themed ‘Saya Ada Cerita’ happening on Dec 30.

Young storytellers can dress up according to the theme of their story. Tales like ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Tarzan’ or Disney favourites such as ‘Snow White’ and ‘Bambi’ are permissible options but original stories are welcome.

Just be sure not to exceed the time limit of three minutes. Do practice your pronunciation, intonation and gestures as those are the keys to being a winner.

Parents should encourage their children to participate as this is a great opportunity to learn and test their public- speaking skills and build confidence.

The best storytellers will walk away with prizes worth RM2,000. Register online for free at http:// bit.ly/kcocerita16.
