MELAKA: A Singaporean man is feared drowned after falling into the sea from Super Star Gemini cruise ship while traveling from Singapore to George Town, Penang, two days ago.

Kuala Linggi Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) (DM5) deputy operations director Lt Commander ( M) Mohamed Suffian Khairuddin said Wuan Poh Fatt, 60, was believed to have fallen into the sea from the ship at about 11.05pm on Sunday.

The cruise ship’s crew only realised that Wuan was missing when the Singapore- based ship was about to dock at the port in George Town, Penang yesterday.

“The crew was alerted by the victim’s acquaintances who then made an announcement to locate him on board the ship but there was no response.

“The crew then viewed the CCTV on board the ship and found there was a glimpse of someone falling into the sea about 9.5 nautical miles from Pulau Batu Besar and approximately 12 nautical miles from Tanjung Kling on Nov 27 at about 11.05pm,” he said in a statement here today.

He said the MMEA DM5 operations room received a call on the missing victim from the cruise ship’s Captain Westergren through the Johor Bahru Maritime Rescue Sub Centre Southern Maritime Region and Putrajaya Rescue Command Centre about 9.20pm last night.

He said the MMEA DM5 then deployed a rescue team to a location near Tanjung Kling here.

Mohamed Suffian said they carried out the search and rescue effort with the cooperation from various parties including the Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force. — Bernama
