-

LANGKAWI: Works to repair and renovate the Eagle’s Square costing RM8.7 million have been completed recently.

Langkawi Development Authority ( LADA) chief executive officer, Tan Sri Khalid Ramli said yesterday it was the biggest ever repair job undertaken on Langkawi’s icon since it was built more than 20 years ago.

“There were repairs carried out in the past but not on the scale implemented today (yesterday),” he told reporters after the handing over of the project by the Kedah Works Department director Datuk Samsudin Bakar here.

Apart from strengthening the structure, the renovation works also involved the installation of LED lights and fountains.

“LADA and JKR will be looking into cost effective methods to turn the fountain into a musical fountain in future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Samsudin said the refurbishment of the Eagle’s Square was one of the LADA projects implemented by JKR in Langkawi.

He said among other projects carried out by the department for LADA here are an alternative road to Pantai Cenang costing RM38.5 million, upgrading of Jalan Pantai Beringin ( RM7.8 million) and Dewan Mahsuri Auditorium ( RM7.3 million).

According to him, the restoration of Eagle Square which began in September last year was fully completed on Oct 26. — Bernama
