Father and son fight off armed robbers

-

KUCHING: A man and his son fought off two armed robbers who broke into their house at Jalan Sultan Tengah early yesterday morning.

The incident happened around 4.15am when the 18-year- old youth was awakened by two masked men armed with a knife and a screwdriver, who spoke to him in a foreign accent warning him not to make a sound. The teen then had his hands bound together by the duo, who ordered him to surrender whatever money that was kept in the house.

Upon being told that the family did not keep any money in their house, the robbers ordered him to lead them to his parents’ bedroom and call out to them to open the door. After several knocks, the teen’s father opened the door and was immediately confronted by the robbers, who tried to overpower him but failed to do so when he put up a fight.

At that moment, the teenager managed to break free of his binds and joined his father in fighting off the robbers, who made the decision to flee the house via an open window.

Following the incident, the family members proceeded to check on their belongings and discovered the loss of three mobile phones and a set of house keys.

District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai confirmed receiving a report of the incident when contacted yesterday, saying an investigation was underway to identify and track down the perpetrators.
