KUCHING: The Royal Malaysia Police ( PDRM) plan to collaborate with ‘ mamak’ ( Indian Muslim) restaurant operators nationwide in implementing the ‘Go to Safe Point’ (GTSP) initiative.

Federal Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department principal assistant director ( Data/Analysis) Datuk Sun Teoh Tia said the collaboration was important in order to create more safe locations for the public to get help in the event of an emergency.

“With regards to our future plans, we want and hope to collaborate with ‘ mamak’ restaurant operators, who have many branches and operate on a 24-hour basis,” he said to reporters after launching a PDRM-Petronas GTSP course here yesterday.

Yesterday’s course, he explained, marked the completion of a series of courses for Petronas, which sees all 1,067 of its stations nationwide becoming GTSP partners.

“In Sarawak, all 88 petrol stations belonging to Petronas and Shell have implemented the GTSP initiative,” he added.

Elaborating further, Sun said the initiative, which was launched in 2013, enables members of the public to seek help during an emergency from alternative locations apart from the nearest police station. He also hoped more Sarawakians will take the time to find out more about the GTSP initiative should they require help in the event of a crime, accident or other emergencies.

Present with Sun during the launch of the course yesterday was Kelly Hoong Hwa Yin, representing Petronas Dagangan Berhad.
