MIRI: Assistant Minister for Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil will seek funds to subsidise the electricity supply connection to shops in Lapok town.

The shop owners were initially required to pay RM20,000 for the connection fees as stipulated in the contract, but this was subtracted by the developer as electricity supply from the grid system had yet to reach Lapok when construction of the shops was completed.

half the connection costs,” said Penguang.

Shop proprietors have been relying on generator sets for electricity since they opened for business.

Late last year, the Lapok and Ulu Teru region were finally connected to the grid system.

Meanwhile, water supply is expected to reach the town when the Tinjar Treatment Plant project is completed and distribution pipes laid next year.

RuralWaterSupply Department engineer Fadir Kawi said the water treatment plant project is expected to be completed this month and the laying of pipes at the bazaar and surrounding areas will start early next year.

The project has been approved and the treatment plant will supply clean water to the surrounding areas including Ulu Teru and Tinjar.
