Sarawak 4x4 Jamboree to cover 187km

KUCHING: The inaugural Sarawak 4x4 Jamboree 2016, which began at the civic centre here yesterday, will cover a total distance of 187km.

The four- day exploratio­n drive will be a mix of on-road and offroad terrain to challenge both vehicles and drivers.

Tasik Biru assemblyma­n Datuk Henry Jinep and permanent secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datu Ik Pahon Joyik were among those invited to flag off the convoy.

Henry said he was pleased to note the participan­ts would be exposed to not just the state’s nature but also local culture, adding he hoped it would be an annual event.

He said the jamboree should also benefit the local community in the areas visited.

Participan­ts were scheduled to travel over 57km of mixed terrain yesterday before settling down at their first campsite at Mount Moi.

of 45km from Mount Moi to Padang Pan.

Tomorrow, participan­ts are to make their way from Padang Pan to Serikin to register a total distance of 29km. On the last day, the convoy is to travel 56km from Serikin to Fairy Caves.

Organised by 4x4 Travel and Adventure Club, the first Sarawak 4x4 Jamboree is held in collaborat­ion with the Kuching Civic Centre Youth Centre and endorsed by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia ( MMM) was among the participan­ts of the expedition, to prove the capabiliti­es of the new Mitsubishi Triton with Mivec Turbo Diesel engine.

In a press statement, MMM chief executive officer Tomoyuki Shinnishi said, “MMM is excited to join the first Sarawak 4x4 Jamboree event with 4x4 enthusiast­s who gather to share a common interest for 4x4 vehicles.

“After Team Mitsubishi Triton successful­ly completed the recent Borneo Safari event for the second consecutiv­e year, we were very proud and decided to rise up to the challenge once again to participat­e in another gruesome 4x4 challenge.”

The statement said the newlylaunc­hed Trition is also the fi rst pick-up truck in its segment to offer an aluminium alloy block diesel engine with Mivec variable valve timing technology.

“With Mitsubishi’s long experience in cross country competitio­n and proven success in conquering the toughest terrain, continuous refinement­s have been made to improve the production of Mitsubishi vehicles.

“With the new Mivec Turbo Diesel engine, the company is confident of meeting pick up owner’s high level of expectatio­ns,” added the statement.
