In addition to burning many calories and raising much needed funds to help the less fortunate in our community, this event brings together people from all walks of life for a fun-filled morning while promoting a healthy living.

KUCHING: Around 1,000 runners took part in the OCBC-Rotary Club of Kuching Corporate Run recently.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Kuching in partnership with title sponsor OCBC Bank ( Malaysia) Berhad (OCBC Bank), the inaugural event was divided into two categories namely 5km and 10km runs.

On hand to flag off participants at the run was Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian in the presence of OCBC branch senior manager Jessie Lim, Rotary Club of Kuching president Chris Teh and event organising chairman Dr John Chan.

All participants who completed the run each received a finisher’s medal while there were also those who turned up in their best corporate attire to race in their respective category while vying for the best dressed prizes.

The run saw more than RM80,000 raised by Rotarians and their friends for the club’s community service projects.

Dr Chan expressed his gratitude to all participants for their support and hoped they would do the same in future Rotary Club events.

Meanwhile, Lim said OCBC Bank, which has been operating in Kuching since 1948, intend to become even more entrenched in the localities in which it operates.

“Our involvement in the OCBC-Rotary Club of Kuching Corporate Run is a prime example of how we collaborate and engage with communities throughout the country.

“We are hoping to become even more intrinsically involved with the Kuching community; and this partnership is one way for us to commit tangibly to going beyond simply providing superior banking products and services. We would also like to meet the social needs of the community.”

She also noted that OCBC Bank was pleased to be able to come in as the title sponsor of the charity run.

“We are particularly happy to see such a significant amount being raised ultimately for the Kuching RotaryNational Kidney’s dialysis centre and programmes for the underprivileged rural community,” she said, adding that the bank’s primary corporate social responsibility laid emphasis on children, education and community.
