Mahathir a traitor to Umno, race, country — Najib
UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was once regarded as a statesman, has betrayed Umno, the race and country.
In a tone of disappointment, Najib, who is also Prime Minister, regretted Dr Mahathir’s move to quit Umno, the sacred party, which he led for decades.
“Dr Mahathir committed the despicable act of abetting with the the DAP, Bersih illegal rally, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara. Even worse, he is in cahoots with foreign enemies such as George Soros, the much hated currency speculator.”
In a speech highly critical of Dr Mahathir, Najib, who is also Finance Minister reminded the delegates of the ‘ Melayu Mudah Lupa’ ( Malays Easily Forget) poem delivered by Dr Mahathir in the Umno General Assembly 2001.
“I want to ask, who is the Malay who easily forgets? Certainly not us, because Umno Malays are loyal and grateful and do not betray the party.
“This ( act by Dr Mahathir) is the ultimate betrayal to Umno, the race and the country,” he said before 2,729 delegates in his policy speech at Umno General Assembly 2016 at Putra World Trade Centre ( PWTC).
Recalling the past, Najib said when he was Umno Youth chief in 1987, he declared his allegiance to Dr Mahathir, who was involved in a close fight for the top post with Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.
“Tengku Razaleigh (who contested the Umno president’s post against Dr Mahathir) regretted my decision for supporting Dr Mahathir.”
Najib said he also supported Dr Mahathir until Umno was declared an illegal party by the court on Feb 4, 1988. — Bernama
