MIRI: As of yesterday, seven government hospitals out of 23 throughout the state have been inspected by the State Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba).
This was revealed by state Bomba director, Nor Hisham Mohammad yesterday, after presenting certificates to 11 members of the Bomba Media Community (‘Media Komuniti Bomba’) at Lopeng fire station here.
The seven government hospitals which are all more than 50-yearsold are Sentosa Hospital in Kuching, Kuching General Hospital, Rajah Charles Brooke Hospital in Siburan, Kapit Hospital, Lundu Hospital, Sri Aman Hospital and Marudi Hospital.
“The (inspection) process was completed today ( Dec 1) and the reports (of the inspection) will be sent to Bomba headquarters (in Kuala Lumpur) and the Health Ministry for further action,” Nor Hisham disclosed.

works in the buildings,” he said.
The remaining 16 hospitals which are less than 50-years- old will be scrutinised in the next phase of inspection, he added.
“We take the fire incident that happened at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru on Oct 25 this year as a lesson on how to better improve our fire safety system and internal standard operating procedure ( SOP) in handling incidents… especially when the fire happened in the operation theatre and the Intensive Care Unit ( ICU)” he said
On the recently established Bomba Media Community, Nor Hisham credited the effort made by both Bomba Miri and members of Northern Sarawak Journalists Association ( NSJA).
“It shows that Bomba Miri and the local media share a good, strong rapport in supporting each other,” he said.
During a course on Nov 22-23, media representatives were given a taste of the firemen’s typical daily routines in handing incidents such as fires and accidents.
“I believe after attending the course, you all will have a better perspective on how firemen handle such incidents in their work routines,” he told the participants.
Also present at yesterday’s ceremony were Bomba Zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, and Petronas Carigali representatives Tarmizi Jaafar and Suffian Sabeli.
Meanwhile, on flood preparations, Nor Hisham disclosed that the department was well-prepared.
“With the logistics and utilities that we have, we are well-prepared… we have despatched several boats to several strategic locations,” he said.
