Dragons of Class 74-75 meet after more than 40 years

-

KUCHING: About 70 exstudents of Dragon School gathered for a reunion dinner at Grand Margherita here on Friday night.

These dragons, as they are referred to, were the pioneer Form 6 students of the school when it conducted Lower 6 classes in arts and science for the first time in 1974. For the purpose of the reunion dinner, they call themselves the Class of 74-75.

Among these pioneer students are names like Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Datuk Anthony Nogeh, abd Serian Division Resident Dahim Nadot who is also the organising chairman.

Others are retired and serving senior government officers like double PhD holder Datuk Dr Chai Chin Khuin, Boniface Anat, Bumphray Kuntoi, Churchill Lawi, Paul Ponar Sinjeng and Anas Nasri.

Several dragons flew in from afar to be at the reunion including those involved in the oil and gas industry like Ngadan Lamoh and Romzi Kadri.

Of the dozen or so lady dragons, only Elisabeth Nyaoi made it. According to Dahim, Class of 74-75 reunion was the brainchild of Entulu and Nogeh who had hoped that those still around would meet after having left Dragon School - now called SMK Tun Abdul Razak - more than 40 years.

“Entulu made it to the dinner, but Nogeh could not leave Putrajaya due to work commitment. Nogeh, however, called to say there will be another reunion of Class 74-75 after this, albeit a smaller one,” Dahim said to loud applause.

Dahim said of the absentees, they had hoped to get classmates like former Lubok Antu MP Jawah Gerang and defeated Batu Kawah independent candidate Liu Thian Leong to come but could not locate them.

Over buffet, the dragons sang and danced until near mid-night.
