Sarawak stands firm against hudud — Fadillah
KUCHING: The state government stand firm against hudud in Sarawak, even if the matter is legally executed in Malaysia.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said Sarawak’s stand is clear in that hudud will not be implemented nor introduced in the state as announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.
“We will wait and see what is implemented. However, if it (hudud) aims to provide improvement to Kelantan that is their problem, we will not interfere,” he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had announced that the government had taken over the Private Member’s Bill by Pas president to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (RU355) during the recent UMNO convention.
“The motion has been tabled in Parliament, but no decision has been made.
“Hence, if the Act were to be introduced, it will not be implemented unless it has undergone consultation with all stakeholders comprising Muslims and non-Muslims representative, non-governmental organisation (NGOs) and politicians,” said Fadillah.
He told this to reporters after flagging off the Petrajaya Fun Run 1.0 held at Masja compound here yesterday.
About 1,400 people participated in the run.
In his opening remark, Fadillah hoped such programme would not only strengthen the unity among communities but also encourage a healthy lifestyle in a fun and recreational way.
At the event, SMK St Teresa received a donation worth RM5,000 from the organisers towards assisting the school after its school hall was destroyed by fire on Oct 29.
Also present were Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Samariang assemblywoman Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Petrajaya Fun Run chairman Hamzah Brahim and state Youth and Sports Department director Abdul Harris Ishak.
