Delegates bring up PTPTN payment issue

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The issue of repayment of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans was still raised at the current Umno general assembly by delegates.

In the general assembly yesterday, delegates who debated the resolutions on religion and education reminded borrowers to be more responsible in paying their loans.

Umno Youth delegate Senator Datuk Zali Mat Yassin said PTPTN borrowers should pay their loans immediately as it would help future generations get funding to further their education to higher levels.

Negeri Sembilan delegate Syamsul Amri Ismail, who is more popularly known as Syamsul Debat, said the Barisan Nasional government was concerned with providing education facilities for people of all ages.

Even so, he said, there were still people who accused the government of being ‘cruel’, especially over the repayment of the PTPTN loans, whereas the agency concerned had provided avenues for consultation for this.

“Those who get good results do not need to pay back. So why do the students need to kick up a fuss,” he said, adding that the government had also provided education facilities, nurseries and kindergartens.

As of September this year, almost three million borrowers had benefited from the PTPTN, with loans amounting to RM48 billion. — Bernama
