KUCHING: Forty-four persons participated in a Bintulu Port group workshop on dyslexia recently.

They came from the Health Ministry and Persatuan Bagi Rakyat Prihatin Dan Ibu Bapa Kanak-Kanak Cacat (Perpikat) Bintulu as well as Tadika Montessori teachers from Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB).

The workshop was conducted by Assoc Prof Dr Ong Puay Hoon from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) who is also founder and president of Sarawak Dyslexia Association.

As part of Bintulu Port Group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, the dyslexia workshop aimed to raise awareness and understanding of the disorder as well as focus on early detection of the condition, coping strategies and teaching methods.

BPHB group corporate services senior manager Maslihah Tioh hoped the workshop would enable participants to understand the learning profile behind dyslexia, and provide practical advice and suggestions to make learning easier for dyslexic pupils.

“BPHP is committed to being a socially responsible partner to its employees, stakeholders and other parties within the communities it operates in.

“As part of our CSR efforts, BPHB embraces its CSR activities as a way to benefit society,” she said.
