Participants attend course on dengue and zika
KAPIT: Some 36 participants from Communication Behavioural Impact (Combi) for Meradong, Julau and Pakan here attended a one-day course on dengue and zika, organised by Meradong and Julau District Council at its conference room recently.
The course among others aims to enhance public knowledge of the aedes mosquitoes that cause dengue fever and zika; activate Combi for Meradong, Julau and Pakan areas; and carry out preventive measures against dengue and zika.
Participants were exposed to preventive measures against the breeding of aedes mosquitoes which is the vector for the dreaded dengue fever and zika; signs and symptoms of the ailments; the importance of keeping compounds and environment clean; followed by a site inspection to identify the breeding places of aedes mosquitoes.
The speakers for the course were Dr Ong Rii Chai from the Health Department Sarikei who talked on dengue and zika; Assistant Environmental Health Officer Entang Uyu from Sarikei Health Department presented a paper on aedes mosquitoes and preventive measures; Councillor (Law Practitioner) Hii Ru Yee talked on the Destruction of Disease Bearing Insect Act (DDBIA) 1975 and Health Education Officer Noon Sigan from Sarikei Health Department on Combi and reporting.
Officiating at the closing ceremony was acting chairman of the council, Frank Lani who presented certificates of attendance to the participants.
Also present were the council’s Senior Assistant Environmental Health Officer Ngu and its several sectional heads.
