More than 120 senior officials attend Post-Budget 2017 economic forum
KUCHING: More than 120 participants comprising senior officials from government departments, statutory bodies and government link companies (GLCs) last Thursday attended a forum entitled ‘Sarawak Economic Perspectives (Post-Budget 2017)’ here.
The forum is a High Performance Leaders (HPL) programme organised by the Leadership Institute in collaboration with the Chief Minister’s Department and Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister’s Department.
Officiating at the half-day forum, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani said the state government was taking proactive measures in planning ahead for the implementation of programmes announced in the Budget 2017.
In view of the many initiatives announced by the Prime Minister in Budget 2017, themed ‘Ensuring Unity and Economic growth, Inclusive Prudent Spending and Wellbeing of the Rakyat’ Mohamad Morshidi urged Federal Agencies to assist in the implementation of the State Socio-Economic Transformation Plan (SETP) to close these development gaps and to ensure that the state achieve its bid to become a high income economy.
Deputy Director of Budget Development in the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Khalid Mohamed who was the guest speaker explained the macroeconomic framework of the National Budget 2017.
He highlighted that all the economic planning of the Tenth Malaysian Plan (10MP) which were outcome-based would still be implemented under the Eleventh Malaysian Plan (11MP).
“In order to strengthen the achievement of budget outcomes, all ministries, state governments and statutory agencies will have to focus on development projects of high-impact, low cost and quick implementations. These approaches would provide the quick wins and value add to the people and community at large. For Sarawak, the main focus is still on rural transformation,” he said.
