7 key result areas identified for 23 local councils in Sarawak

KUCHING: Seven key result areas (KRAs) have been identified for implementa­tion by 23 local councils in the state within the 2017-2018 period.

This was announced at a oneday workshop in Pullman Hotel here yesterday.

The main objective of the workshop was to align the 20172018 focus for the councils with the state government’s transforma­tion programme.

The seven KRAs are mitigating the occurrence of flash floods, developing ‘green and clean’ markets, creating business opportunit­ies, having safe and well- maintained roads, enhancing public confidence in services provided the local authoritie­s through ‘Local Help Services, having clean and hygienic food outlets, and also having clean and functional public toilets.

Strategies have also been outlined to drive the local councils forward – each focusing on results that will benefit the people and the councils as well.

A total of 120 senior officials including mayors, council chairmen and councillor­s took part in the workshop, which was declared open Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian

Meanwhile permanent secretary to the ministry Bakrie Zaini, who spoke at the workshop, called on members of the public to be involved and work hand-in-hand with the local councils towards achieving the desired results, as those aspired by the top officials of the councils and also the ministry.
