KUCHING: Members of the public who are heading back to their home towns, kampungs or away for holidays should inform the nearest police station.

Padawan acting deputy police chief ASP Muhamad Rizal Alias said this would enable the police to keep an eye on their residential areas during their absence.

“We urge them to fill a ‘ balik kampung’ form at the police station so that we can monitor their houses as well as the area to prevent house break-in,” Muhamad Rizal said when met at the launching of ‘Ops Sikap’ at KM39 Jalan Kuching- Serian by State Public Order and Traffic Head Supt Mohd Sarie Fauzi.

On another note, Muhamad Rizal said the number of fatal accidents in Padawan area had decreased by 36 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Earlier on, he witnessed at high profile community policing event at Tapah Sentral in Tapah near here, organised in collaboration with Total Reliability Sdn Bhd.

According to Total Reliability managing director Dato William Wei, the event aimed at forging closer cooperation between the public and police to fight crime.

“Actually, as members of the public, we must work with the police to prevent and eradicate crime,” Wei told reporters.
