Special children receive Christmas gifts from Parkson

MIRI: A group of management staff from Parkson led by the manager Tan Chee Kean, brought cheer to inmates at the Associatio­n of Parents with Special Children ( Pibakis) here Saturday.

Joining the group were committee members of the Lions Club of Miri Mandarin led by their president Kapitan Jee Kee Hiong. They were welcomed on arrival by Pibakis vice secretary Hasimah Hamdan.

The visitors brought Christmas gifts for the special children.

“This is our initiative for the less fortunate such as the Pibakis children during festive season,” Tan said of the visit.

The gifts were donated by Parkson, the Lions Club of Miri Mandarin, Lions Club of Miri Host, Leo Clubs of Riam Road Secondary School and Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang College, as well as from the general public.

Located near SMK Lutong, Pibakis is a non-profit organisati­on, set up to take care of and cater for special children’s welfare, health and future.

It carries out community rehabilita­tion activities such as early interventi­on programme ( EIP) for special children below seven years old to stimulate their developmen­t and day training programmes (DTP) to teach living skills.

Other services include vocational training, physiother­apy, occupation­al therapy as well as social and outdoor events like swimming, bowling and badminton.

According to the president Chiam Yun Chaw, there were currently over 70 special children under the care of Pibakis
