MIRI: Mega Hotel handed over a total of 148 gifts to ambassadors and volunteers for the pledge programme called ‘Shoebox Christmas Gifts’ yesterday.

Receiving the gifts on behalf of Shoebox Christmas was Sally Jane Tan, the organising chairperson for the pledge in Miri this year.

The gifts are for the children of Rumah Wen Megalit as well as the surrounding longhouses at Lapok, Baram.

The corporate social responsibility project was carried over a period of one month, during which hotel guests and members of the public who wished to donate deposited their gifts in the box placed at the hotel lobby.

Shoebox Christmas Gifts is initiated by a group of individuals who are not affiliated to political nor religious groups, with the aspiration to make a difference in lives through the simple form of giving.

The project was initiated in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and had touched many hearts since it was introduced many years back.

“We are indeed very happy to see the overwhelming contribution from the public, though it is only the second year being partner of choice for the Shoebox Christmas project for our hotel,” said Mega Hotel communications manager, Jenny Chen.

She added that the hotel also took it an occasion to give back to society, by extending assistance to the needy children, not only in urban areas, but rural area as well.
