KUCHING: The ‘Chikung’ 9669 group, in their bid to popularize Qigong among the Malays, yesterday held a wellbeing programme for 100 participants at Dewan Hikmah here.

According to the group founder Datuk Othman Abdillah, Qigong is relatively new to the Malays in Sarawak, but has been practised for over 5,000 years in China to promote inner healing.

“I have been practising and learning Qigong since 2003 in China and Taiwan, and we just started to introduce Qigong to the Malays here this year,” said Othman when met by The Borneo Post yesterday.

“Qigong involves a system of breathing, movements and meditation and is a way to bring life energy to the fullest,” said Othman.

“Oxygen and blood is instrumental to a human body and Qigong in general, brings blood circulation and improve blood flow throughout the body, ensuring health and relaxation,” he added.

Othman said Qigong could also be seen as an alternative preventive medicine compared to other expensive medicinal products.

“People from all walks of life joined the event today, including those who have problems with their health, and we introduced Qigong as an alternative treatment to them.”

“It is our wish that through this event, Qigong will gain popularity, particularly among the Malays, and also in Sarawak in general,” he added.
