BAU: A cooperative owned and run by the local womenfolk would be set up here soon, with Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep contributing RM8,000 for its start-up.

The assemblyman believes that the women of this district have the capability to operate the cooperative, which will focus on selling a perfume product range named ‘ Sangon’ (‘ beautiful’ in Bidayuh).

“This will be the first cooperative run by these women, and I really want them to produce and market the product which will be a grand achievement for them,” he told reporters on Saturday after the launch of the ‘Family Day 2016 and ‘Bau Got Talent’ hosted by the Women and Family Development Council of Bau District at the civic centre here.

Henry also hoped to see the cooperative’s office and sales display centre be set up at this town next year, assuring the members that he would continue to give his full support in its operations.

On the family day gathering, which had several programmes in store for the participants, Henry said the side objective was to provide the opportunity for the local womenfolk to showcase their talents and potential.

“There are many hidden talents out here, so we – the government – must provide the avenue for them (women) to show their talents and potential which could be tapped,” he pointed out.

Henry also said he would prefer for the government programmes and functions be spread across the constituency – a move that would allow for wider participation from the constituents.

“We just cannot focus on holding functions at one area – we need to move around so that more people can join,” he added.
