Sg Apong Shieng Seng Temple to light up Rooster Year celebratio­n

KUCHING: Devotees and members of the public are invited to sponsor lamps for the Sungai Apong Shieng Seng Temple to pray for good health and peace as the world rings in the Year of the Rooster next month.

The Sungai Apong Shieng Seng Temple Devotees Associatio­n will launch a lighting ceremony at the temple in Sungai Apong here at 7pm come Jan 21, 2017.

The ceremony is also held in conjunctio­n with the temple’s forthcomin­g Chinese New Year celebratio­n from Feb 8 to 11, 2017.

Not only are the lights meant to bring festive cheer to the local community but they are also to help devotees and donors wish for excellent health and a fruitful year ahead.

According to chairman of the associatio­n Law Thin Hing, popular local singers will be invited to perform during the four- day celebratio­n in February 2017.

He said the associatio­n has been organising the annual festive event for the last 13 years.

“Our festive celebratio­n has emerged the grandest of its kind in Sungai Apong. Entertainm­ent performanc­es will be staged throughout the four nights from Feb 8, 2017,” he told a news conference here yesterday.

Law added that Henghua delicacies such as Henghua Mee and Henghua Beehoon would also be served during the celebratio­n.

He thus appealed to members of the public and devotees in particular not to miss out on the festive do while hoping that sponsors and generous individual­s would give the temple their support.

Organising chairman Lau Ching Chung was present during the press conference.

Meanwhile, four types of lamps are available at RM50 (outside the temple), RM100, RM200 and RM500 (all inside the temple).
