Pakatan Harapan eyes high profile candidates for 14th GE

-

JOHOR BAHRU: Pakatan Harapan is harping on high-profile personalities and local leaders as its candidates to win seats in Johor in the 14th General Election .

Johor Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) deputy chairman Jimmy Puah Wee Tsee said the high profile candidates would contest for parliamentary seats, while local leaders would be named candidates for state seats.

“We will also get a few leaders at the central level to contest for a few parliamentary seats, with one of them which we have identified is Pasir Gudang, while for the state seats, we will field local leaders.

“This strategy is crucial because we see Johor as the key state in ensuring a big win for Pakatan Harapan,” he told reporters after presenting the “Back to School Aid” at Pasaraya Sakan Seri Alam here yesterday.

He said Pakatan Harapan would welcome suggestions from component parties on the name list of the candidates for Johor.

Puah claimed that PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is Ampang member of parliament, had expressed her willingness to leave the Ampang constituency and be fielded in other states, including Johor, to ensure victory for the pact in the coming general election.

“There are seven parliamentary seats in Johor where the opposition lost with a margin of two per cent. So, with this strategy, we are confident of capturing the seven seats,” he added.

The seven parliamentary seats are Pasir Gudang, Labis, Tebrau, Segamat, Ledang, Pulai and Muar. — Bernama
