37 take part in Kampung Semadang badminton tournament

KUCHING: Thirty- seven youths from Kampung Semadang along Jalan Puncak Borneo here participat­ed in the inaugural Kampung Semadang Youth Badminton Tournament held at the village’s badminton court yesterday.

The competitio­n organised b y K ampu n g S emad a n g Youth Club, was among the activities held in conjunctio­n with the upcoming Christmas celebratio­n.

Among those at the opening of the competitio­n were Assistant Mini ster of Publ ic Health Datuk Dr Jerip Susil’s special administra­tive officer Keron Mapus, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity officer Dilang Jalang, Kampung Semadang village chief Samson Manggang, and event organising chairman Krisnam Louis Sebod.

Samson said he hoped the tournament would be an annual event at Kampung Semadang to promote a healthy lifestyle among the villagers particular­ly the youths.

“I hope that this sporting event will be held on an annual basis and that there wi l l be participat­ion from women as well as primary school pupils,” he said.

The tournament was divided into three categories namely the singles, doubles and veteran singles.

First, second and third place winners from all categories will bring home prizes in the form of a trophy and medal whereas all participan­ts will also receive a medal as a token of appreciati­on for their participat­ion.
