‘Equal chances for contractors in project’
In LBU, there is a Bumiputera Development Unit that will take the data from Ministry of Works, CIDB and Sarawak Chief Minister’s Office to vet companies that are qualified for cast lots or tenders.
MIRI: All contractors in various classes including class F who are registered with Northern Borneo Highway Sdn Bhd ( LBU) are given fair opportunities to take up tenders for the Pan Borneo Highway project.
In stating this, Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf said the Pan Borneo Highway project has packages where contractors with class F have equal chances to participate.
“In LBU, there is a Bumiputera Development Unit that will take the data from Ministry of Works, CIDB and Sarawak Chief Minister’s Office to vet companies that are qualified for cast lots or tenders,” Fadillah said during the 30th anniversary dinner of DUBS Miri at Miri Marriott Hotel yesterday.
Present were DUBS Miri chairman Abdul Samat Mohd Ali, Member of Parliament for Sibuti Ahmad Lai Bujang, state
Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf, Public Works Minister
assemblyman for Lambir Ripin Lamat, LBU chairman Tan Sri Ahmad Urai and DUBS Sarawak chairman Datuk Abang Helmi.
Elaborating on the opportunities for Class F contractors, Fadillah said Bumiputera contactors are given the chance to bid for the building and maintaining of bus stops along the Pan Borneo Highway.
He disclosed that besides bus stops, flyovers will also be built along the highway, thus giving contractors with Class A down to Class F the opportunity to participate in the mega project.
However, he stressed that all interested contractors must fulfil the criteria and register with LBU.
Fadillah, who is also Member of Parliament for Petra Jaya, said only companies that have been screened will be invited for cast lots or tender.
At the same time, he agreed with DUBS for it to work together with CIDB to organise courses for Bumiputera contractors to act as an avenue and provide chances for them to be involved in the mega project.
“I support these contractors to take the courses on managing their companies’ incomes, project management and construction so that they know the needs of the project,” he said.
Earlier, he briefed DUBS members on the functions of the Works Ministry.
At the same function, Fadillah announced a grant of RM10,000 for DUBS Miri and promised to look into DUBS Miri building repairs need.
DUBS Miri chairman Abdul Samat, who also spoke during the function, said more women and young entrepreneurs were now joining DUBS Miri.
Thus, he hoped for more assistance from the ministry to help build them up to become successful entrepreneurs.
