483 individuals graduate from Centexs
KUCHING: A total of 483 graduated from Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) during its 2nd Convocation Ceremony at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching ( BCCK) yesterday.
The ceremony was officiated at by State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani.
The graduates were awarded scrolls for completing various skills training, including in Hospitality, Tailoring, ComputerAided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CADCAM), Mechatronics, Scaffolding, Wireman, Welding 3G and 6G.
Sixty- eight of them were under the Recognition of Prior Experience (RPE) programme.
Centexs chief executive officer Syeed Mohd Hussein Wan Abdul Rahman said the ceremony acknowledged the achievements of the students.
“It is an initiative by the state government to strengthen skill training that is beneficial to the youths, and they can contribute to the needs of the industries and the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score),” he said.
Syeed Mohd Hussein said Centexs was committed to developing and strengthening human capital and resources in the state.
“Centexs endeavours to educate parents and society at large on the importance of technical training. We want them to know that it is no longer the last resort choice for youths or academically poor students who cannot pursue their studies at tertiary level.”
During the ceremony, Mohamad Morshidi launched the Orange Passport, which is an official document issued by Centexs to its competent graduates who have fulfilled requirements of specific industries.
The main objectives of the Orange Passport are to recognise the competencies of Centexs graduates in the industries, to produce a competent employee in their effective field, to provide a source of reference for employees and employers of competencies achieved, to facilitate the employee’s performance appraisal process and to serve as proof of work experiences in relevant fields.
