Club members welcome the new year with gathering
MIRI: About 80 Gymkhana Club Miri ( GCM) members, their family members and guests attended the club’s New Year 2017 Countdown gathering on Saturday.
Various activities for all ages were held including a quiz on major world events, a Bingo game, a men’s ‘ most hairy leg’ competition, karaoke and dancing sessions, and lucky draws apart from dinner.
Among those entertaining the attendees with songs and dances during the dinner were Miri Hospital surgeon Dr Tarek Abdul Latif, organising chairman Stanley Soong and organising committee members, Veronica Wong and Margaret Loh. Also present was the club’s manager Murugayah Veloo
At the stroke of midnight, diners popped over 100 balloons to bid farewell to the year 2016 while singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’ and later, dancing the night away.
Meanwhile, Soong said the countdown gathering was to celebrate the successes in 2016 and usher in the new year besides fostering closer rapport among the members and their family members and friends.
The new year countdown was among the activities held all year round by the club in line with its focus on being a family club that organised various activities and programmes for its multiracial members and the public in Miri to interact and promote understanding.
