Get involved with devt activities, women told

MIRI: Women, especially those in Marudi constituen­cy, should empower themselves in various aspects so that they can participat­e actively in the developmen­t of their families, communitie­s and the country.

In making this call, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Marudi assemblyma­n Datu Dr Penguang Manggil said they should not just have formal or informal education but must be adapt themselves with informatio­n technology, entreprene­urship, healthcare and spirituali­ty.

“Each year, Women’s Day is celebrated to give recognitio­n to women for their various recognitio­ns to the national developmen­t as well as to encourage more women to involve actively in any kind of activities that contribute towards the developmen­t of their families at home, communitie­s around them and also the country,” he said when officiatin­g at the district-level Women’s Day celebratio­n in Beluru, Bakong here yesterday.

He reminded that education is a lifelong process and that all women should not stop learning and improving themselves.

Penguang also called on the women in Beluru district to be more active in organising and participat­ing in activities organised by their respective associatio­ns and the community.

He also called on all womenrelat­ed associatio­ns to have strategic relationsh­ips with all government agencies and local non-government­al organisati­ons ( NGOs) to ensure effectiven­ess of any programme or activity held.

Various activities were held in conjunctio­n with the celebratio­n yesterday, among them were aerobics, exhibition­s and talks.

On another note, Penguang called on all constituen­ts of Marudi to continue working together and give their undivided support to him to enable him to bring more changes and developmen­t to the area.

Among those present was Marudi District Council chairman Edward Mendai.
